What kind of oatmeal should I use? What are the different types of oats?
There are several types of oats you can choose from. Steel cut oats are one type of oat variety you could choose from. When you use steel cut oats rather than rolled oats, your oatmeal will retain most of its grain like shape and will have a chewy texture. This is because this style of oat is the least processed oat you can get.
Quick oats or instant oats are another oat you can choose from. Quick oats are the most processed oat. Quick oats cook so quickly because they are precooked. These oats will be soft and mushy when cooked.
My favorite oat to use is old fashioned rolled oats. This style of oat is very versatile. You can use it for many things, but I really enjoy old fashioned rolled oats in my oatmeal. This oat will retain most of its shape, and not be complete mush when it’s done cooking. You will still be able to chew the oat a bit. But even though it retains its shape, it can cook into a nice creamy bowl of oatmeal.
